For my final project at Type and Media I wanted to explore the process of cutting out material in order to find a shape. I chose linoleum as the material and made linocuts. To create a type family, I developed a logic: with fewer cuts, the shapes are dark and heavy; as I cut more, the shapes become lighter and more defined. The styles were a direct result of this cutting logic. The Black style, being the darkest, is a sans serif and works great as a display font at large sizes. It also has an Incised companion style. The Regular, Extrabold styles, their intermediate weights and italics have irregular slab serifs and are suitable for texts.
In 2020, Rezak won Gerard Unger Scholarship and was published in 2022 by Type Together.
